ONTARIO, Canada: 24 April, 2018 - Boutique Canadian game studio Phantom Compass has today announced a partnership with transmedia pioneer Joshua Ortega (Gears of War, Star Wars, The Other Dead) to co-develop a slate of boundary-breaking IP.
“Joshua’s experience with cross-media brands will allow us to develop our game universes for new screens and media formats,” said Phantom Compass studio head and co-founder Tony Walsh. “All of our projects have drawn inspiration from the mediums we love outside of gaming. We’re working with Joshua to increase the reach of our stories and find new audiences.”
Based in Ontario, Canada, Phantom Compass has created unique games and branded entertainment for clients, partners, and consumers since 2008. The studio is best known for its award-winning titles “Rollers of the Realm” (pinball role-playing game) and “Auto Age: Standoff” (80s cartoon-inspired car combat), written and developed with Ortega.
“I’ll be collaborating with Phantom Compass on new avenues for their existing IP, as well as transmedia adaptations of original projects I’ve helped to create,” said Joshua Ortega. “This includes my Zombie Animal graphic novel ‘The Other Dead’ (created with Digger Mesch and TMNT-creator Kevin Eastman) and ‘11,’ an upcoming comic series that’s best described as my Ultimate Superpowered Epic.”
Ortega is a cross-media narrative powerhouse and video game industry veteran best known for his lead writing and transmedia role on the bestselling, critically acclaimed Gears of War series from Microsoft, Epic Games, DC Entertainment, and IDW. He has also written for and consulted on numerous iconic brands including Batman, Spider-Man, Star Wars, Family Guy, and Star Trek.
