LOS ANGELES -- August, 2008 -- "B Dangerous," a team of online gamers, is missing in Thailand. Trapped in a warehouse under continual surveillance by a deadly taskmaster, the gamers resort to planting cryptic messages in website code and online gaming forums to reach the outside world -- can you help the team safely escape their prison?
The quest to Save B Dangerous was developed by Phantom Compass as a promotional "Alternate Reality" game for Hollywood action adventure movie "Bangkok Dangerous" starring Nicolas Cage.
The game begins with the disappearance of the B Dangerous gamers while traveling in Thailand. The team uses a variety of multimedia sources to secretly broadcast their pleas for help. The clan is assisted by one of their wired sisters, "Slayher," who posts the first call for assistance on the Global Gaming League website (GGL.com) and a video message via Youtube.
Players descend into the shadowy side of the web to interact with main characters, share clues and speculate how the scenario will end at www.SaveBDangerous.com -- hosted by GGL.
Unlike conventional video games, Save B Dangerous is an Alternate Reality Game, and uses the real world as its platform. In this case, the internet is the game board with live-action characters and clues scattered across the Web. Some aspects of the story are easy to find, while others involve in-depth problem solving such as codes and puzzles. Each discovery is rewarded with further access into the story.
"Players become heroes in a completely different way than they're used to in video games," said Tony Walsh, founder and chief creative of game maker Phantom Compass. "Instead of playing within a closed, computer-generated world, players of our game interact one-on-one with live-action characters and can affect the outcome of the story in a very visceral sense. By the end of the game, players will feel right at home in the universe we've designed the game around and will be eager to see it all come to life on the big screen."
